Handcrafted gifts are the best. Unfortunately, my hands are only good at typing and twisting the barrel of a lens. That’s why I enlisted the help of my friend, Tiffany Hall, to help me make the perfect gift for my Valentine this year. After some quick decisions, she was on her way in making a beautifully polished, black precious stone necklace that in my opinion, balanced elegance and class. You could wear it with jeans, or with a dress, which was why it was such a savior. The necklace completed Lucy’s little black dress right before we went to dinner. Thanks Tiffany! First annual MDA Muscle Walk was a huge success!

First, I wanted to say thank you to all my friends and family members that supported me in beating my $500 goal. We not only beat my goal, but I also received contributions from 10 people. Even if you didn’t donate, spreading the word and passing the message along helped too. In total, the event raised $62,000 towards research and program costs that battle more than 100 different forms of muscle disabling diseases.

If you didn’t know, MDA in Washington is partnered with some of the leading institutions that fight diseases and cancer including University of Washington Medical Center, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research, Seattle Children’s and the SCCA. The money is being put to good use. Once the code has been cracked with this disease, it’s going to help eliminate a lot of pain, struggle and heartache many families like ours face today.

I wanted to also say thank you to SmugMug for sponsoring my campaign by providing me with free prints for the posters and postcards that I will be sending to my generous donors. SmugMug is my online gallery and printing service for KVW Photo and has provided an amazing service for me and my clients for the past two years. If you’re ever in need of a reliable, friendly, affordable printing solution, check them out. I couldn’t be more happy with my experience with them.

Fundraising for the 2011 Muscle Walk Northwest

Philanthro has been a great experience so far, but I also wanted to highlight another aspect of philanthropy that I am a part of. I recently joined as a member of the newly formed Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Young Professional Committee, or MDA YPC for short. Crazy acronyms rights? Well the short story is that this amazing national organization has started a new YPC to expand the influence MDA already has within the Washington state community. It’s an expansive network of people with an even more amazing history of support for families who need an extra helping hand.

The YPC’s first participating event is the 2011 Muscle Walk that is happening on Saturday, February 12th at Qwest Field. Our team’s goal is to fundraise $500, but I’m making $500 a personal goal of mine. I’ve already had two generous donations totaling to $150. With two weeks to go, I’m hoping you can help me get there soon. Contributions from $1 to $10 or more are all welcome. There’s never too little to give. If you can’t give, that’s okay! But please pass the word on.

All donations will receive a custom postcard just as a thank you. Donations over $50 will receive a 20×30 print enlargement. See what it looks like below.

Hand crafted planner by one fine dae

It was nearing the holiday season and I wanted to give something a little special for Lucy on Christmas. I had the idea of finding her the perfect personalized planner. She always mentioned how there weren’t enough monthly planners in the world and since it was the start of a new year, it seemed to make the most sense. Luckily, instead of shopping around Target, Barnes and Noble, Papyrus, or some other craft store, I asked my dear friend Linda to help me make something.

With a few art directions on color, content and materials, Linda used her creative mastery to put together a beautiful spiral bound planner that to this day, remains empty. It’s so nice that Lucy isn’t quite ready to write in it. Check out the photos of Linda’s work, the artist behind one fine dae. Thanks again Linda!

I hope everyone had a great holiday season with loved ones close by. My family and I all wish you a happy holidays! Just like every holiday season, it’s mostly about the kids and watching my niece and nephew grow up more each year just means there are more chances to introduce them to more hobbies like art. As you can see below, I’m getting the kids started on photography (surprise!). Just look at his form. It’s perfect! Now if only the Lumix had a real viewfinders…

Fun bokeh shapes

Two years ago, before any of this “business” stuff started, my friends and I gathered to take photos of random things. You name it, flowers, clouds, windows, puddles and kittens. On one of those ocassions, Linda showed us how we could have fun with changing the shape of bokeh. Bokeh is a Japanese term that describes the “blurred background” effect you commonly find in SLR cameras. Using a modified hood, you can shape points of light to whatever you want! Flash forward to this past weekend, we all got together to try it out ourselves as part of a reunion.

Well, sort of.

You see, it rained once sunset hit Gasworks, which caused us to retreat to Shultzy’s for a little happy hour. BUT! I did manage to sneak a couple shots for you just because I liked my cut out of….

…butterflies!

Family fun during Easter Sunday

Yesterday was Easter Sunday. It was the first time in a long time that both families, Lailey and Wong, gathered together to enjoy good food and good company. We tackled PJ’s “graduation” breakfast, shared stories and watched the kids bounce off the walls from their sugar high. Mimosas in one hand, and my camera in the other, I was able to capture a few funnier moments as the kids ran around searching for colorful eggs filled with cavity inducing amazingness.

I hope everyone else had a wonderful Sunday with loved ones. =)

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any images here. With the Haiti fundraising and the amount of planning to organize the sessions and weddings for the next several months, there has been little time to share. An apology is in order. Sorry =(

It comes with great pleasure that you will soon see some of the work that has been going on lately. It has been a busy couple of months. There has been some explorations with new equipment, different scenarios and artistic treatment. All of which, I have my friends to thank for being wonderful people who let me photograph them. You are my clients, my partners and also my inspiration.

Just a quick update about the support received the past couple of days for Billy’s Birthday Mission. He is just $520 and 28 people away from reaching his goal of $15,000 and 100 people participating. There is no way to express how amazing this has been for all of us. Thank you, thank you all for being such wonderful people!

I also wanted to thank everyone who has taken up my offer for 2 hour photography sessions, a wedding package and also to my couples who have been asking their friends and family members for donations. You’ve helped me beat my personal goal of $2,000 and I know that there is going to be more coming in before January 31st. Your contributions are deeply appreciated and I am so happy to be able to help you with photography.

Everything that we’ve done together in the past 14 days truly has made a difference. Not only are we helping Doctors Without Borders provide aid to survivors, but we are also creating awareness about issues greater than what we typically hear about day to day. Just telling others what we’re doing and letting them know anyone can help deserves a special thank you too. We hope this spirit will continue on.
